Creating Steep Hugel Beds: A Guide to Increased Garden Efficiency
Steep hugel beds, a variant of the hugelkultur gardening technique, are gaining popularity for their ability to enhance soil fertility, conserve water, and boost plant productivity. Recommended by permaculturist Sepp Holzer, these elevated garden beds have distinct advantages:
- Compaction Prevention: The steep slope minimizes soil compaction from foot traffic.
- Increased Surface Area: More planting space allows for greater crop diversity.
- Easy Harvesting: Height reduces the need for bending.

Hybrid Solar Roofing Tiles

The Solar Roof Tile Mild-Hybrid 14.5W (SDP-MH 14.5W) is a building-integrated, monocrystalline photovoltaic (BiPV) module. It is similar in size, weight and appearance to a conventional roof tile and is just as easy to install. Thanks to the integrated rear ventilation, in combination with a heat pump, thermal energy can be used for heating or hot water generation in addition to electrical energy.

Due to its design and the materials used, the Solar Roof Tile Mild-Hybrid is particularly powerful and durable. This is also reflected in its high resistance to hail, storm suction and fire. In addition, each Solar Roof Tile is walkable and can be individually removed from the composite.

Future challenges: As the global population grows, agricultural output needs to expand by 70% by 2050, further straining water resources.
Competing demands: Agriculture already accounts for 70% of global freshwater withdrawals, and increasing demand for irrigation is projected to rise by 16% by 2050.
Addressing this crisis requires improved water governance, sustainable agricultural practices, and international cooperation to ensure food security in the face of growing water scarcity.

When considering all freshwater on Earth, including groundwater, the Great Lakes account for approximately 0.4% of the total freshwater supply.

This massive freshwater system covers a surface area of approximately 94,250 square miles (244,106 km²).
